Tree Atlas

Updates

What’s new in Tree Atlas

The latest improvements to the Tree Atlas app on iPhone and iPad and the web desk, newest first. Your surveys stay in step across all three.

  • Free RPA calculator on the website: root protection areas for single and multi-stem trees, worked to BS 5837:2012.
  • New pages showing how Tree Atlas works, from photograph to signed report, and what's new.
  • A new launch screen in Tree Atlas orange, matching the app icon.
  • Solo now covers two people: you and one worker, at the same price.
  • Fixed: opening a team invite from its email link now adds you to the team straight away.
  • The website opens faster on phones, with the page showing straight away on a slow connection.
  • A faster website. The home page opens much more quickly on phones, and you can now pinch to zoom.
  • See Tree Atlas on a laptop, a tablet and a phone on the tree work page, with real screens from each.
  • A new page on BS 5837 reports and Tree Constraints Plans, and the home page now answers "What is a BS 5837 tree survey?" and "What is a Tree Constraints Plan?".
  • Links to the sample report open in a new tab.
  • Today, your way. Today now shows what matters for your work, such as Due this week, the weather at your site and your recent sites. Choose which sections it shows, and in what order, in Me › App › Today; your choice follows you to your other devices.
  • Feet and inches if you prefer. Switch to imperial in Me › App › Units to see and type measurements in feet and inches. Your reports stay metric.
  • Record the leaf state in one tap. Under Weather and conditions, tap In full leaf, Losing leaf, Out of leaf or Coming into leaf; the usual one for the date is marked.
  • Photos grouped by tree. On Photos and notes, each tree's photos sit in a stack; tap it to fan them out, newest first.
  • Me in four tabs: You, Business, App and Device.
  • Solo is £49 a month plus VAT when you subscribe on the web, and new businesses start with a 30-day free trial. Our terms, refund and privacy pages now explain how VAT is charged.
  • A new look for the website, with a new logo, a fresh home page and pages for pricing and for tree work.
  • A new app icon: the Tree Atlas mark on orange.
  • Ticking a repeating task now tells you when the next one is due.
  • A weather suggestion from an earlier survey day now says which day.
  • Fixed: using your location on iPhone could fail.
  • Share a job with your crew. On a site, Site details › Share job gives you a link and a QR code. Your crew opens the job without an account, and once opened it works with no signal. Customer contact and tree notes are shared only if you switch them on, and you can cancel a link at any time.
  • Job sheet for the crew. Reports and plans › Job sheet makes an A4 PDF with the plan, the trees and the work on your phone, ready to share by AirDrop or Messages, even without signal.
  • Voice notes send themselves. Tap Stop and a site voice note, or one recorded on a saved tree's page, is sent straight away, like a voice message. With no signal it waits on your phone, even if you close the app, and sends when you're back online.
  • A tidier web desk. Search everything with ⌘K, get help for the page you are on, see your notifications, and start a new site, all from the sidebar. Your account, billing, tasks, review and team pages are clearer and easier to scan on any screen size.
  • A Home page on the web. See what's waiting for your sign-off, overdue works, the sites in progress and what your team has done lately, all in one place.
  • A clearer site page on the web. Every site now has Map, Tree schedule, Photos and notes, Reports and plans, Revisions and Site details, with the revision and the main actions at the top.
  • See your reports before you download them. Reports and plans shows the report, the Tree Constraints Plan, the schedule and the CAD drawing as they will download, and you can download the Tree Constraints Plan on its own.
  • Drop photos onto a site on the web. Each photo goes to the tree it was taken beside, using the location in the photo; you pick the tree for any without one.
  • The site map on the web, with crowns, root protection areas and labels, and a click on any tree to see its details.
  • Turn recommendations into tasks: select trees in the schedule and choose Create tasks.
  • Fill the weather in with one tap. Under Weather and conditions, tap Fill from weather and Tree Atlas suggests the conditions for when you surveyed, such as "11 °C, overcast, light SW wind, dry". Nothing goes in until you tap Use.
  • Weather kept with each revision, and printed on the report cover with the purpose of the survey. It locks while a revision waits for sign-off.
  • Reports note winter surveys. When deciduous trees were surveyed out of leaf, the report's limitations say so.
  • For tree work as well as surveys. Tell Tree Atlas what your business does, tree surveys and reports, tree work, or both, and it sets itself up to match. You can change it any time in Me › Organisation.
  • Start a job from a customer. Businesses that do tree work can start a new job from a customer's name and address, with no boundary to draw. Trees on these jobs are recorded without a BS 5837 category.
  • Screens open straight away. Sites, Today, Tasks and each site's map and schedule show what you last saw at once, then update quietly. With no signal they tell you they're showing the copy saved on your phone.
  • Big estates in sectors. Split a large site into sectors of 50, 100 or 150 m, see which are done, go to the next unfinished square, and download the map one sector at a time.
  • Mark squares done as you finish them, even without signal.
  • Boundaries in several parts, such as plots either side of a road.
  • Revisions and sign-off. Each site now has revisions: Draft, In survey and Signed. Before you sign, Tree Atlas lists exactly what changed since the last signed revision, tree by tree, including groups, woodland, hedges and the boundary. Signed revisions are kept exactly as issued.
  • Reports from any revision. Download the PDF, schedule or CAD plan for a signed revision, or the current draft, which is clearly marked DRAFT. Reports include a revision record.
  • Re-survey a site from its Revisions tab, and see each tree's history.
  • Tasks. A new Tasks tab on iPhone and iPad and on the web: works due, rechecks and sign-offs, with reminders when works fall due.
  • Sites grouped by client or project, and neighbouring sites shown on the map so boundaries line up.
  • A refreshed Tree Atlas logo.
  • Redesigned voice notes, with a waveform player and a list of every voice note on the site.
  • Voice notes are transcribed automatically, with the "um"s and "uh"s left out. You can set them to Ask or Off in Me › AI suggestions › Voice notes.
  • Clearer file names for your report, schedule and CAD downloads, with the reference, site, revision and date.
  • CAD (DXF) plans coloured by BS 5837 category, with tidier lettering.
  • A smaller sync indicator in the header: a quiet tick when everything is up, a count while uploading or offline, and a clear "2 failed" when something needs you.
  • "Uploaded today" in the upload queue: everything that went up from your phone or iPad today, with the time.
  • Photos taken without signal now upload once you are back online, and failed uploads retry by themselves.
  • You can take the next photo while the AI is still reading the last one.
  • GPS places the tree for you as soon as the position is good to 25 m.
  • Twelve site types, including Churchyard, Estate and Highway, plus "Other" with your own description.
  • Terms and Privacy open inside the app.
  • Have a code? You can redeem it from the subscription screen on iPhone and iPad.

Faster, safer recording

  • Undo your last save. Saved a tree by mistake? Tap Undo on the "Save and next" message and the tree comes back as a draft with its photos, voice notes and position, and its tree number is free to use again.
  • Save and next carries the last tree's values forward, so a row of similar trees takes a fraction of the time.
  • AI suggestions can fill the tree form from your photos and what you say, where it is switched on for your consultancy. Nothing is filled in without your tap. Reports say which details were suggested and confirmed.
  • Voice notes can be transcribed into text once saved, and the text appears on the tree and in the site notes.
  • Photo tags are now Stem, Crown, Defect and Context.
  • Full-screen photo viewer with pinch to zoom.
  • Place a tree precisely on the map, from GPS, by offset or from a nearby map feature, and adjust the root protection area shape where the ground calls for it.
  • Groups, woodland and hedges can be drawn, recorded and shown on the map, the plan and the report.

Reports that are ready to issue

  • A new report layout: landscape A4 with a proper cover, revision block, page header and footer on every page, crown spread by direction, RPA radius and area, and a method appendix with a worked example.
  • Tree Constraints Plan: an A3 plan sheet in the report, and large sites are split across numbered sheets.
  • Client and reference from Site details appear on the cover and in the footers.
  • Tree photographs appendix, if you want one.
  • Build the report, schedule and CAD plan from the phone on a site's Reports and plans tab.
  • CAD export in British National Grid, with trees, root protection areas and the grid.
  • Trees without an exact position are listed clearly rather than left off the plan.

Sites

  • Fuller Site details: client, project, site type, planning authority and reference, grid reference, survey summary with counts by category, and site settings in one place.
  • Archive and restore sites from the phone or the web.
  • Site notes with history and voice notes, alongside the site's photos.
  • Edit the tree schedule as a spreadsheet: on the web, or in landscape on a phone, with bulk changes and undo.
  • Base plans and imports on the web: bring in a base plan, line it up with the map, and import an existing tree schedule.
  • Ordnance Survey mapping by default, with a satellite view when you need it.
  • Grid square A1 is always the south-west corner, and every tree has a grid square.

Account and team

  • Sign in with Apple, Google or Microsoft.
  • Subscribe in the app through your Apple ID.
  • Redeem an offer code on iPhone and iPad: tap Redeem a code beside Restore purchases. On the web, enter a promotion code at checkout.
  • Transfer ownership of your consultancy to a surveyor in your team.
  • Download my data from Me, at any time.
  • Help and support in the app, with an easy way to report a problem.
  • Team invites by email, change your name and add a profile photo from Me.
  • Clear explanations before the app asks to use your camera or microphone, and a choice about sending photos for AI suggestions.
  • Try the demo from the sign-in page to look around before you sign up.

A new look

  • A cleaner, calmer design across the app and the web, with tree labels such as A·T1 and B·T2 everywhere.
  • iPad: the tree schedule sits beside the open tree, with layouts made for the larger screen.
  • New app icon and launch screen.
  • BS 5837:2012 categories are A, B, C and U throughout.

  • Fixed a problem that could lose survey photos.
  • The app opens offline, and starts faster.
  • Clearer subscription and legal pages.

  • A new public website with a sample report.
  • Subscriptions on the web.
  • Each tree shows whether it has reached the server.
  • A warning when a photo looks too dark to be useful.
  • Larger buttons and stronger text contrast, easier to use outdoors and in gloves.

  • First version: camera-first tree recording with AI species suggestions, drafts saved as you go, photos and voice notes, offline recording that uploads when you are back in signal, site boundaries and grid squares from the map, BS 5837 PDF and CSV reports, and the web desk for reviewing trees and inviting your team.
